Frequently Asked Questions

  • There are many names for accessing mental health via the internet. Telehealth, virtual counseling, telecounseling, distance counseling, teletherapy. As a former skeptic of the usefulness of telehealth services, I am fully prepared to admit I was wrong. I’m extremely grateful for telehealth platforms, and I’ve been practicing counseling via telehealth for almost 3 years now. I’m able to work with clients I never would have met without this option, and my clients can access counseling from the comfort of their own spaces. I use a highly-rated telehealth program called Simple Practice for counseling sessions. You can rest assured that your health information and virtual sessions are protected and compliant with HIPAA.

  • The amount of sessions can depend on so many factors personal to you. In my work with clients, I promise to make this an ongoing discussion as we frequently check-in about your progress in counseling. I’ve observed that some clients can make progress towards their goals in as few as 4 sessions; other clients may choose to engage in long-term counseling over several years. We can try to estimate the duration of counseling during our initial session together.

  • I have experience working with a wide range of specific issues including anxiety, depression, and gender dysphoria. You can find a comprehensive list on my Therapy Den profile. Click on my Therapy Den member’s badge at the bottom of each page of this website to navigate there.

  • I’m honored that you’re interested in working with me!

I encourage new clients to complete an initial consultation with me to check if we’re a good fit for each other and to give you a chance to ask me questions before committing to ongoing counseling. I’ll also ask about your comfort and access with technology and internet to see if online counseling is right for you. You can request an initial consultation appointment by navigating to the ‘Request an Appointment’ tab and clicking on the Request button on that page. Follow the prompts to select the consultation appointment, select an available time, and then submit the request after providing your contact info. You’ll receive a notification when I either accept the request or suggest another time.

If after the consultation you want to choose me as your counselor, I will create a file for you in my practice software and send you intake paperwork to complete before the intake and goal setting session. You will gain access to your unique Client Portal that will make scheduling and completing paperwork convenient.

After completing intake paperwork, you can request the Intake and Goal-Setting appointment through your client portal. The intake session is when we will review your history, and I can inform you about my practice policies. We’ll also work together to create goals for us to focus on throughout our counseling relationship, as well as identify your frequency of appointments.

  • My current fee is $140 per 50-minute session and increases from that baseline for longer sessions. This is the rate I need to earn per session to take great care of myself and my family, which in turn helps me provide excellent care for my clients. I intend to re-assess my fee at the beginning of each year and may increase it to account for advancements in my practice and professional development. Current clients are notified at least one month in advance of any fee increases.

  • I offer a rate of $70 per session (50% discount off my full fee) to clients who qualify through the Open Path Collective. Go to their website to learn more and to see if you qualify to register for this service. You can also view my Open Path profile to check if I’m currently accepting reduced-rate clients. Once you become an Open Path member, you’re a member for life and can see any Open Path therapist.

  • I am in network with United Healthcare and Aetna insurance plans via Alma’s directory. For more information and to estimate your fee for services, you can visit my profile on Alma.

Using insurance for your services requires that I apply a diagnosis to your client file. If you would rather work without a diagnosis, you may choose to pay my out-of-pocket rate of $140 per session.

  • At this time, I only provide individual counseling. Working with couples is outside of my scope of practice.

  • At this time, I only work with adult clients.

  • I am able to write these types of letters as long as we have an ongoing counseling relationship that allows time for me to properly assess the therapeutic benefit of the animal you are seeking to designate as an Emotional Support Animal. The Emotional Support Animal letters I write are solely for housing and residence purposes; I cannot make determinations about taking an Emotional Support Animal into public spaces. I am also unable to make these assessments and determinations in only one session with a new client; assessing for an Emotional Support Animal is part of ongoing, regular counseling.
